The town of Manchester, Connecticut has been defined by the legacy
of the Cheney family since construction of Silk and Velvet Mills in the late 19th century. Located twenty minutes east of
Hartford, Connecitcut's capital, Manchester holds an integral position in trade throughout the region, and provided the United
States with the only locally grown and refined silk in the country for much of its existence. The Cheney Brothers have left
an indelible legacy on the town of Manchester, building schools, railroads, inns, town offices, stores, and homes for employees.
Most of these structures still stand, and are in use.
